Fairbank Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) operates on Eglinton Avenue West between Dufferin Street and Chaimberlain Avenue, and along the West side of Dufferin Street between Hunter Avenue and the York Beltline Trail. The BIA, a city agency, is managed by a volunteer board of directors consisting of local business and property owners, and staff, who work strategically to attract visitors, beautify the streetscape, and support local business.

Public Investment

Transit

The Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) project is the largest transit expansion in the history of Toronto. The light rail transit line will extend along a 19 kilometer corridor of Eglinton Avenue between Mount Dennis and Kennedy Station. Travel times will improve by 60%. Fairbank Station at Eglinton Avenue and Dufferin Street presents a significant opportunity for growth in the area including an increase of potential customers and pedestrian foot traffic once complete. For more information about this $5.3 Billion project.

Public Space

Once the subway is complete, the BIA and City of Toronto with support from other levels of government plan to invest in a major streetscape redesign including items such as: resurfacing, new planters and in-ground tree plantings, pedestrian pole lighting, wayfinding, bike lanes (where possible), and more. This public investment and transit primes the area for private commercial and residential investment. More information about the Eglinton Connects Study and Project.

Member Benefits

Events

Fairbank Village produces various events throughout the year to attract thousands of new visitors and build a strong community spirit. Our annual summer festival closes down Eglinton for a weekend of music, entertainment, rides, and sidewalk sales. Member businesses receive free vendor space in this two-day event in order to promote their products or services.

December is a time for family and shopping, and our Light up the Holidays event brings everyone together for tree lighting fun! Other events such as movie nights and our Pumpkin Giveaway round out the year. The events are also a great platform for creating additional opportunities to promote individual businesses.

Beautification & Streetscape Investment

Currently, all businesses and property owners benefit from the improved local atmosphere and ambience that created with floral displays, banners, benches, lighting, winter displays and art projects.

Plans for a larger streetscaping pedestrian pole project which will be cost-shared with the City of Toronto are also underway to enhance lighting, safety and beautification initiatives once the Eglinton Crosstown LRT construction is complete.
