#50YearsofBIAs
“A BIA is integral to advancing a distinct, livable, vibrant and resilient business district within their local community.” -OBIAA
2020 marks 50 years since the formation of the world’s first BIA. On September 16, 1970, Bloor West Village BIA, became the first BIA in the world. There are now more than 300 in Ontario, and approximately 500 across Canada, with BIAs (or their equivalents) in many countries around the world, such as the US, UK, Scotland, Australia, South Africa and more.
Fairbank Village BIA was formed 13 years ago as a way to brighten up the neighbourhood by representing over 120 businesses.
Our first event was the Fairbank Summerfest street festival in 2008, which has grown from a small event into our annual Summerfest, an entire street closure full of rides and vendors.
We aim to make Eglinton a destination for everything our businesses and residents need.
